This Inca rope footbridge in the Altiplano (highland plateau) of Peru still survives today. It is a popular misconception that the Incas were an ancient civilisation. The Inca civilization arose from the Peruvian highlands sometime in the early 13th century. Their last stronghold was conquered by the Spanish in 1572.
