A final round up for a week of yellow photos – this time, it’s insects with yellow markings. I am sorry that I don’t know the names of many of them. There are 7,000 species of Flies (including 270 Hoverfly species and many other insects which one wouldn’t immediately think of as flies) and 7,000 species of wasps (some of which are minute) in the UK alone! And there are over 4,000 species of Beetles in the UK. Then there’s the rest of the world!
If you want to be blown away by a few more statistics, then here goes! Insects are the most diverse group of organisms, with more species than any other group of animals. Over one million species of insects have been discovered and described but it is estimated that there are millions more not yet discovered or identified. There are approximately 1.4 billion insects for every person on earth and insects account for about 80% of all animals! If your brain is reeling from these figures, just enjoy looking at the pictures instead!
