I’ve chosen ROCKS AND BOULDERS, STONES AND PEBBLES for this week’s theme.
(I won’t be including gems or fossils.)
I have to confess to being something of a kleptomaniac when it comes to stones and pebbles, as anyone who goes on a walk with me or visits my home or garden can testify! I love the rich variety of shapes and colours, textures and patterns from the tiniest little stone found on the beach or when digging in my garden to magnificant cliffs by the sea or in hills and mountains; from sparkling white through delicate pinks and yellows to deep reds and greens.
Rocks are the foundations of our planet and life, the very ground on which we stand and walk and build on, the origin of our soil, sand and clay. We all too often take them for granted.
The geology and chemistry of the formation of rocks and minerals is fascinating and complex, but I don’t want to go into that this week. I just want you to enjoy the beauty.
