A few of my favourite things . . . . . .
(If you want to see the photos enlarged and one at a time, click on the first photo in each group and then click on the arrow to move on to the next photo. Return to the main page to move on to the next group.)
- Pieridae species of butterflies
- A Skipper species
- This looks very similar to our UK Ringlet
- Under surface of wings of a Blue species
- Upper surface of the same butterfly
- The deception of these two similar species of butterflies saves them from predators.
- The shape of the wings, the ‘eyes’ and the false ‘antennae’ and ‘head’ on the left of the photo fools birds into catching it at the opposite end to its actual head (ie: the tip of its wings) so enabling it to fly free with only a bit of damage to its wings!
Having spent ten minutes creeping towards a butterfly, I was thrilled to get this close-up of its head, thorax and antennae. It wasn’t until I looked at the photo that I noticed an ant by its legs.

Here are a few Odonata species (ie: dragonflies, damselflies, skimmers, darters etc).
- A Damselfly species
- A Darter species

And finally, a selection of wildflowers . . . . . .
I love taking photos, especially as they so often show exquisite details which we so often miss with the naked eye, but the pleasure is greatly enhanced by being able to share the wonder and beauty of nature as widely as possible with others, so I really appreciate all those who have looked through my recent Blogs. If you want to see still more of my wildlife and nature photography, you can always go to Flickr to while away a few minutes – or hours – when you have nothing better to do!
