CAKE DECORATING, BAKING & CONFECTIONERY

2009 Cake for four family June birthdays

I enjoy crystallising edible flowers and petals from the garden to decorate cakes with. I then play around with possible designs on paper before sticking them on cakes.

Gingerbread Crib scene for Christmas

I put crushed boiled sweets in the cut-out area around the figures half-way through baking the biscuits. A thick boiled sugar syrup sticks the end pieces to the stable piece and all the pieces onto the base, holding it all together firmly.

When our eight grandchildren were younger, we used to have them for a day before Christmas to bake and do various craft activities. We made so many things over the years. It was hard work preparing and clearing away, but such fun – something I miss now that they have all left home.

2014: Gingerbread biscuit village made by them all – their ages ranged from 3 to 19.

2015: The grandchildren making sweets, chocolates and Christmas Yule logs.
